Special Counselling for 144 MBBS Annaii Medical College held, Students get relief
Chennai: Counselling for the relocation of 144 MBBS students of Annaii Medical College and Hospital in Kancheepuram district admitted in the year 2016-17 was conducted by the Directorate of Medical Education(DME), in compliance with the High Court orders. The counselling took off on Tuesday.Annaii Medical College and Hospital has lost the Council approval for not following its norms.
The students were accommodated in government medical colleges in the State, leaving aside Madras Medical College, Pudukottai Medical College, and Stanley Medical College, as each of them already had 250 students.
“We added about eight students to colleges that had 100 seats and seven students to colleges that had 150 seats,” G Selvaraj, Secretary, Selection Committee, Directorate of Medical Education told TOI. These students will continue to pay around Rs 3 lakh as their tuition fee.
Of the 144 students, 87 were studying on government quota seats in the college, while others were management quota entrants.
“We accommodated the students in the colleges that MCI gave the approval to increase the strength. Since Pudukottai is a new college and also there are already 250 seats in Madras Medical College and Stanley Medical College each, except these colleges the students were accommodated in other colleges depending on the existing strength,” G Selvaraj told TNIE.
“After completing counselling for students on merit, we did counselling for those under the management quota,” he further added.
