Agra: An Inquiry Committee looking into a brawl incident between a paratrooper and doctor at Agra's Sarojini Naidu Medical College in September this year has discovered that the doctor in question was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the exchange between the two.

According to officials, the blood sample of Dr. Saurabh Prakash Sharma tested positive for alcohol. Dr. Sharma is alleged to have assaulted paratrooper Ranjit Singh and his wife on September 30.

The Committee constituted by the district magistrate and headed by the city's magistrate, confirmed in its report, on Monday, that Dr. Sharma had 23 mg of alcohol per 100 ml in his bloodstream, at the time of the incident.

According to officials, the conflicting parties had accused each other of acting under the influence of alcohol after the clash; which was why their blood samples were taken for tests.

The paratrooper, whose blood sample was found to be clear had alleged that on September 30 when he took his wife for an examination to the SN Medical College, an apparently drunk Dr. Sharma had misbehaved with them. His statement was supported by some of the other doctors present on the scene. Both the parties had later filed a complaint at MM Gate police station.

Meanwhile, SN Medical College, Principal Dr. Saroj Singh told TOI, "We have come to know about the report submitted by the investigation committee, but have not received any communication from the DM's office. If Dr. Sharma is found guilty, action will be taken against him according to our policy."

DM Gaurav Dayal said, "We have sent a copy of the report to the principal secretary, medical education, for disciplinary action against the doctor," reports TOI.
