Siddha Research Council signs an MOU with Pondicherry University

Puducherry: A Memorandum of Understanding has been reached between the Central Council for Research in Siddha (CCRS) of the Union AYUSH Ministry and the Pondicherry University for carrying out multi-disciplinary research and teaching programmes . These programs will be conducted in the area of fundamental basic science research, and clinical and literary research.


The signatories of the MoU are Dr. R.S. Ramaswamy, Director General of CCRS and Prof. M. Ramachandran, Registrar in charge, Pondicherry University.


Giving details about the nature of agreement, a press release stated that the focus would be on” Health Care for All,” and drug development for neglected and non communicable diseases. The agreement is also meant to foster an evidence based medical system in Siddha medicine. The CCRS and the Pondicherry University in order to nuture the Siddha system of medicine will also be sharing their infra structure and expertise.


The CCRS will also be offering a Ph.d under the Ministry of Ayush and the Puducherry university will be a beneficiary of the scheme. A Department of Siddha medicine is also to be initiated by the CCRS at the university. The university employees are to benefit from the out patient department for Siddha treatment and medicine to be started at the university health centre.


The University Grants Commission’s (UGC) recommendations to include AYUSH disciplines in Ph.D programmes have been implemented by Pondicherry University ahead of every one else said Prof. Anisa B. Khan.
