SCB Medical college: HOD Urology Transferred, Doctors call off Strike

The junior doctors of SCB Medical College and Hospital here called off their 10-day-long strike today after the state transferred a senior teacher of the college's Urology department, college officials said.The students had alleged that the senior professor used to harass them, and therefore they went on strike, demanding his removal from the college, they said."


Upon the government's acceptance of our long-standing demand to transfer the teacher, Datteswar Hota, from here, we decided to call off the strike and resumed our duties from this evening," the General Secretary of the Junior Doctors' Association (JDA), Phanindra Kumar Swain, said.He said other doctors, who had stayed away from work in support of our demand, have also resumed their duties.The state government had yesterday transferred Hota to MKCG Medical College in Berhampur from here, a college official said.


Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that doctors at the medical college were on strike accusing Hota of harassing and committing atrocities on them, all the 450 junior doctors of the teaching hospital had resorted to cease-work agitation from Monday afternoon demanding his removal.The striking doctors had alleged that Hota was forcing them to treat and take care of patients in his private clinic located in the city.By misusing his position, power and influence in the corridors of power, Hota had been spreading anarchy in the hospital and if any of the PG students expressed reluctance to follow his diktat, then the concerned student was threatened of getting adverse marks in the practical examinations, the junior doctors alleged saying he had been doing this for past several years.
