Rajasthan: Sawai Man Singh Hospital to get a new super specialty block soon

Jaipur: The Health Minister has issued an order giving a major thrust to the construction of a 14 storey building near Sawai Man Singh(SMS) Hospital for super specialties.


Officials at the SMS Medical College revealed that the centre is sanctioning Rs. 200 crores to develop the facility into a super specialty unit. Two bungalows number 9 and 10 on Vivekanand Marg have already been given away to the SMS Medical College, where a separate building is to be constructed said an official.


With a 4,800 bed strength, hospitals affiliated to SMS Medical college has a patient footfall of 40 lac every year, at the outpatient department. Another three lac benefit from the inpatient facilities at the affiliated hospitals. The footfall at these medical facilities is on the increase, The new buildings are bound to improve facilities.


"The building will have 14 floors. One floor will be allotted to cardiology and another for cardiothoracic surgery. The new building will have other super specialties," said Dr Shashi Mohan Sharma, Head of Department, Cardiology, SMS Medical College.


Health Minister, Kalicharan Saraf said that the work on the construction of the super specialty block will soon start. He said that a subway linking SMS Hospital's main building with the Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedics (ITO) would also be constructed.


The new construction will also help in doing away with congestion in the present premises and also create space for super specialty units


The officials of the Sawai Man Singh Hospital will soon be submitting a proposal plan to the state government.
