JAIPUR: The two new medical colleges to come up in Churu and Bhilwara have been named after Rajmata Vijaya Raje Scindia and Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay and will commence session on August 28.

The newly appointed principal of Churu Medical College, Dr Shiv Lal Solanki, revealed that the new medical college was to be called "Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Medical College(PDUMC), Churu".

"The first academic session of the medical college will start from August 28, which will be a big day for Churu," said Solanki.

Last year the predicted date for commencement of session in all these new medical colleges had been July 1, 2017. However, the delay in commencement of session occurred due to the MCI denying approval in the face of discrepancies.

The Council inspection at Dungarpur had found a 100% shortfall in faculty strength and that of resident doctors. The Dean and medical superintendent appointments had also not been done. The other shortfalls in facilities were related to speech therapy, central oxygen and central suction systems, audiometry, disaster trolleys and crash carts.

The Medical Council of India (MCI) had given a 100 seat approval recently for the Churu Medical College.

The 300-bedded DB Hospital, has been attached to PDUMC, Churu. Earlier, Medical and Health Directorate controlled it as the District Hospital Churu. However, it was handed over by the state government to medical education department for starting of a new medical college at Churu reported TOI.

The 2nd medical college at Bhilwara has been named after Chief Minister, Vasundhara Raje's mother, Rajmata Vijaya Raje Scindia.

The other medical colleges in Dungarpur, Bharatpur , Pali, are yet to be named, however, the process is underway. The fact remains that the new medical college coming up in these areas will be charging far more than the existing government medical colleges in Jaipur, Ajmer, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Kota, and Bikaner. The five new medical colleges in Pali, Bharatpur, Bhilwara, Dungarpur, and Churu, will have a large no of seats as payment seats. For payment seats, a student will have to submit Rs 7.5 lakh, per annum as tuition fees.
