Rajasthan: MCI nod to new Medical College at Barmer with 100 MBBS seats for 2019-20

Jaipur: The Barmer Medical College is all set to introduce MBBS course with an intake of 100 seats for the academic year 2019-20 after gaining approval of the Medical Council of India (MCI).


The Medical Dialogues team had reported that the Medical Education Department had earlier denied the permission to start the new medical college at Barmer.


The department planned to progress leaps and bounds in the direction of starting the Barmer medical college by giving its effort to fulfil MCI compliances.

The approval for the establishment of the medical college at Barmer was given by the centre in the year 2015. The construction work for the said medical college started in 2016.


The medical college had sought permission to start the MBBS course after which MCI inspected the college following which a letter of permission was issued.


After three years, the medical college finally gained recognition of MCI to begin the MBBS course.


Overwhelmed with the decision of the MCI given in this regard, the Principal and Controller, Barmer Medical College told the TOI, "The infrastructure of the college has been constructed with a cost of Rs139 crore, besides Rs 50 crore was spent instruments."


He further informed about the number of seats reserved for the students in the college.


He stated to TOI, "Out of 100 seats, 15 seats will be reserved for All India quota, 15 for NRIs, 35 will be payment seats and 35 are free seats. Admissions will be done on merit basis. The free structure for the free seat is Rs 50,000 per year, for payment seat it is Rs 7.5 lakh per annum, for NRI seat it is $1 lakh for the full course."


The Medical dialogues team had earlier reported that the Rajasthan government had decided to enhance 100 MBBS seats each at three medical colleges based at Kota, Ajmer and Udaipur.
