Rajasthan: Jhalawar medical college to offer 50 additional MBBS seats
Rajasthan: There is some good news pouring in for the medical aspirants in the state with the government funded Jhalawar medical college ready to offer 50 additional MBBS seats. The medical college will now offer 150 MBBS seats, up from the existing tally of 100. It has received an MCI recommendation to offer more seats from this academic year only.
On the other hand, MCI had earlier considered the application of some new private medical colleges in Udaipur city. However, now it has rejected this application by American International Health Management Limited and at Nathdwara by Ananta Charitable Educational Society.
This is as a result of MCI inspection carried out at premises of two private hospitals-who applied for the establishment of medical colleges. MCI noted them as ineligible as they did not meet the basic MCI norms.
The MCI report implied that during the inspection of Udaipur's private hospital, their team observed that there was no normal delivery and no caesarean section on that particular day of visit. Besides, no patient was reported in the ICU at the time of visit. Also, the Blood bank was non-operating and cadavers were noted unavailable.
In Nathdwara's private hospital there was meager bed occupancy of 28.33%. There were only 7 blood bottles in stock, with no expiry date mentioned on the bags.
MCI has recently given its nod to a private medical college in Rajasthan. The decision is likely to change the complexion of medical courses offered in the state, by adding more medical seats on offer. The new medical college will be set up at Jaipur National University Institute for Medical Sciences and Research Centre. It also holds the distinction of being the only college in the state to received permission from MCI this year.

It is further reported that the ministry of health and family welfare is now seeking documents from the Jaipur National University (JNU) regarding details of infrastructural facilities. This includes details of teaching and non-teaching staff, buildings, equipment, as required by MCI standards.
