Jaipur: With hopes of commencing session for the upcoming five medical colleges in rajasthan this year and making them operational by July 1, the Medical education department recently issued guidelines for appointments of principals and controllers.

However, the move seems to have fallen flat on the face of the authorities. The government plan to make five new medical colleges in Bikaner, Pali, Dungarpur, Churu and Bharatpur operational by July 1 with the centre’s permission according to the Medical Education Department Minister Kalicharan Saraf, hasn’t taken off.

Officials revealed that their wait for permission for opening of new medical colleges was seeming to turn into a futile effort. Mr. Saraf in the hope of getting Centre consent for the same had even gone ahead to recruit faculty.

The government seems to be losing hope for three other proposed medical colleges in Alwar, Sikar and Barmer.

Earlier, eight medical colleges planned to commence session, but now the number has now been reduced to five. The government with this introduction had been hopeful of an additional seat increase of 500, with a 100 seat allotments each to the five new colleges. But it seems government's efforts have gone in vain keeping in view the silence being maintained at the other end to start the academic session in 2017-18.

"We have applied for medical colleges, but we have not received the permission," a medical education department official added.

The Medical Education Department seems to have missed quite a few deadlines for new medical colleges. Earlier, the education department had set the target to start the academic session from July 2016-17. However, it failed to meet the deadline, due to infra structural delays. Moreover, the recruitment of faculty and purchase of equipment delays also resulted to due certain constraints.

The medical education department however remained optimistic and set a new deadline for starting the new medical colleges from July 2017-18. The government directed officials to complete the construction work by December 2017.

However, the Council inspection of the new medical colleges stifled all hopes, as the education regulator disapproved the proposed medical colleges due to inability on their part to meet council norms

After MCI disapproved the medical colleges, the medical education department didn’t loose hope and swung into action by recruiting medical faculty for these colleges.

Interviews were conducted for appointment of medical teaching staff in April. However the desired results were far from coming reports TOI.
