These 6 medical colleges are located in Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Ajmer, Kota, and Bikaner. The addition to the PG medical seats will be done under a Centrally sponsored scheme to promote medical education, he added stating that around Rs 1,096 crore has been sanctioned for the scheme.

The minister said that there were 1178 PG seats in the medical colleges of the state. “Now, with the increase of 960 PG seats in medical colleges, the shortage of specialist doctors in far-flung areas of the state will be addressed. Along with this, the shortage of faculty in medical colleges being opened in the state will also be addressed,” he said.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that the state of Rajasthan will soon experience expanded healthcare service as the Centre has given its nod for the establishment 10 new medical colleges in Jaisalmer, Karauli, Banswara, Alwar, Nagaur, Bundi, Sirohi, Baran, Chittorgarh and Sriganganagar districts.

Confirmation to this effect was given by the Additional Chief Secretary (Health), Rohit Kumar Singh, who stated that the Centre has accepted the proposal for 10 more medical colleges and this will go a long way in improving the quality of healthcare in Rajasthan and bridge the gap in the availability of the human resource.
