Faridkot: The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has given Punjab Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Jalandhar, a go ahead for admissions of a hundred and fifty students, for the current academic session. However, the ministry nod comes with a few riders.

Following are the riders attached to the ministerial permission, for admissions to the college for the current academic year:

  • A directive has been issued to the PIMS Principal and Chairman, to submit an affidavit declaring that all the infra structural drawbacks have been done away, in accordance with, the compliance report submitted by it two months ago

  • A Rs. 2 crore bank guarantee is to be issued in the name of the Medical Council of India (MCI), The guarantee is meant to be valid for one year or till such time that the first renewal assessment is done

  • The Supreme Court appointed oversight committee can inspect the college anytime after September 30, in order to verify the compliance report

  • If deficiencies of any sort are detected, the college would be barred from further intake of students for the next two years (2017-19).The ministry has communicated the same to the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences.

In June a ministry refusal for admissions indicated infrastructural deficiencies in the college. The ministry’s refusal order came after the MCI’s February inspection.

The ministry gave the college another opportunity 2 months ago, when it allowed the college to present its credentials to former Justice RM Lodha headed Oversight Committee, appointed by the Supreme Court.

Several other medical and dental colleges got an opportunity to make up for their deficiencies at the same time as well.
