Punjab: Lord Mahavir Civil Hospital to start DNB in Obstetrics and Gynaecology

Ludhiana: The Lord Mahavir Civil Hospital for the first time is going to start a post graduate course. With the approval of National Board of Examination (NBE), the hospital is set to train students in DNB Obstetrics and Gynecology with the post graduate course.

The college has undertaken a tie-up agreement with Christian Medical College and Hospital in Ludhiana, where the students will be taught basics of the course, while they will practice at LMCH during the duration of the course.

The students will be provided with basic facilities such as accommodation and Wi-Fi during the course.

It is also confirmed that the college is also signing an agreement with students specifying that, they will have to continue their work with the department for next five years after completion of course.

Dr Pardeep Sharma, program officer, told HT that Dr Jatinder Kaur, assistant professor at CMCH will be teaching the students." and Retired professors of Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), Dr BK Gill and Dr Mohini Sood will also guide the students.

Examinations for the program will be conducted by the National Board of Examinations itself. The course fee is set as Rs 80,000 and each student will get a stipend of Rs 40,000 per month for providing his/her services to the hospital during the practice period.

"The NBE has given accreditation to admit two students in Diplomate of National Board (DNB) Obstetrics and Gynaecology, a three-year post graduate degree course", stated Sharma.

First student Nidhi Khushwah from Alwar district of Rajasthan has taken admission into the course on Friday.

Dr Sukhjeevan Kakkar, Senior medical officer of the hospital, stated, “It is a proud moment for the hospital staff and entire city that a postgraduate medical course has started here.”
