Punjab: The last batch of Chintpurni Medical College and Hospital Pathankot has approached the court demanding action that they be adjusted in recognised medical institutes.

This is the only batch of students left in the college. Earlier the first MBBS batch from the academic year 2011-12 was shifted in nine other institutions from the Chintpurni medical college.

The prevailing issue of the college not being able to secure MCI recognition has put a question from the students over the validity of their course.

As reasonably, the last batch of 101 students inducted in 2014-15 are now worrying over their future.

The junior students in their plea to the court have apprised that even the recent round of inspection by MCI at the college has found it 100% deficient in terms of faculty. The MCI inspection report is dated March 16.

Following which students have expressed anguish over the matter saying that the classes were not being conducted regularly, keeping their future at stake.

HT reported that the students also told the court that Punjab National Bank was moving ahead with selling Chintpurni’s properties because the college had defaulted on the Rs 100-crore loan for setting up the campus. They even provided as evidence a letter written by the bank to Pathankot deputy commissioner, asking him to take possession of the college campus. The students said the bank had also approached MCI, asking them to shift students from the college so that the campus property could be taken over.

The high court, which heard the petition on April 22, directed the state government, the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, which governs the state’s medical colleges, and the MCI to file their replies by the next hearing on April 26.
