Punjab EWS Quota: 100 additional MBBS seats redistributed among three government medical colleges
Faridkot: The Medial Council of India Board of Governors (MCI BOG) which had earlier given nod for the 100 additional MBBS seats to two government medical colleges under quota for Economically Weaker Section (EWS) has now been redistributed the quota among three medical colleges in the state for the academic year 2019-20.
Medical Dialogues had reported that the MCI BOG had given the permission to add total of 4465 MBBS seats in around 132 government medical colleges across India. The Government entailing the number of seats permitted to the medical colleges in view to implement the EWS quota so that the seats of other categories don't get affected.

The MCI had given permission for 100 MBBS seats to government Medical Colleges in the state-based at Amritsar and Patiala with 50 seats each. Following the decision, the two medical colleges possessed 250 MBBS seats each.
The Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) was earlier denied any additional seats under the EWS quota. The authorities of the state medical health department and the institution had written to the MCI for the allocation of additional seats at the medical college, reports the Tribune.
Following the consideration of the letter by the institution, the MCI decided to redistribute the seats among the said three government medical colleges in the state. The Patiala medical college which earlier gained nod for 50 additional MBBS seats will offer 25 and the remaining 25 seats were allocated to the Faridkot Medical College.
As the information of EWS quota seats came late and the first round of counseling had already begun on 2nd July, therefore, counseling for the said quota seats will be carried on in the second round.
An officer informed the Tribune, "We are hopeful that by the time the second round of counseling starts, the increased quota of MBBS and BDS seats for EWS candidates will be available with the university."
