Faridkot: Irrespective of the chaos that prevails in the Gian Sagar Medical College, Banur student shift, due to the college management challenging the High Court order dated June 2, the state government is going ahead with the shifting within the coming three weeks as per the High Court directive. Counselling of students for this shift began on Monday and was conducted by the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) . The college in a June 8 petition challenged the court’s student shift decision, when a private hospital decided to take over the college.

The students of the college apprehending such a move on June 7 filed a caveat application. Caveat gives the applicant the right to appear before court on the hearing of an application which is expected to be made in a case.

Vice-Chancellor, BFUHS, Dr Raj Bahadur said the counselling would be conducted as per schedule. “Until there is any order to the contrary, the university will go ahead with the June 2 order of the High Court,” he added to the Tribune.

The counselling would help in placements of 500 MBBS, 500 BDS and 224 BSc (nursing) students in various medical and nursing colleges of the state.

The counselling that took place on Monday for student shift as per the High Court order dated June 2 saw 200 of the 1,437 MBBS, BDS and nursing students (2012-2013 batch) shifted to government medical colleges in Amritsar, Patiala, and Faridkot, Dayanand Medical College, Ludhiana, Sri Guru Ram Das Institute of Dental Sciences and Research, Amritsar, Punjab Institute of Medical Sciences, Christian Medical College, Ludhiana, and Adesh Institute of Dental Sciences and Research, Bathinda, as per the merit.

The university is also holding counselling of 300 MBBS students on Tuesday .

BFUHS Vice-chancellor Dr Raj Bahdur has clarified that students will have to follow the rules. He elaborated that fee of the shifted students will continue to remain the same as that paid by them at Gian Sagar Medical College. However, shifted students will have to make their own living arrangements as hostel accomodations are already full.

NRI students were allotted seats through draw of lots. Some NRI students requested to be allowed internships in institutes of choice.

University rules, demand that a student does internship from the college where is he/she is enrolled, reports HT.

The Gian Sagar College Management has in the meanwhile, challenged the High Court Order dated June 2, for withdrawal of its essentiality and no objection certificate.
