Punjab: Dayanand Medical College and Hospital partners with Canada-based firm

Punjab: With an objective to bring an improvement in healthcare delivery, education, and medical research, Dayanand Medical College and Hospital has forged a partnership with a Canada-based firm called William Osler Health System.

An MOU has been signed between Prem Kumar Gupta, secretary, managing society, Sandeep Puri, principal from DMCH, and Naveed Mohammad, vice-president, medical affairs at Osler, Canada to bring the collaboration into effect.

As a part of the initiative, DMCH recently hosted the visit of a high-level eight-member global health team from Osler group to study the models of care, which is the first of its kind in the region. The visiting team unit had representatives from emergency medicine, mental health and addictions unit.

The medical college hospital is all set to adopt the latest protocols and best practices to deliver improved emergency medicine services.

Deepak Jain from the department of orthopedics, DMCH, implied in his statement that this collaboration will enable the institute to provide better healthcare services to the residents of the Punjab region as well as Punjabis settled in Canada. Even the clinical director from Osler echoed this sentiment saying that majority of their patients is of South Asian origin.

As quoted by TOI, G S Wander, chief cardiologist and head of research at DMCH, said the two institutions will carry out joint research which will include study of people who migrate to Canada from Punjab. The changes in their health parameters and other indices will be evaluated. As per the MOU, DMCH would work with Osler to train its faculty members in emergency medicine and in formulating and conducting training programs for its physicians, nurses and other support staff.
