Patiala: Three private medical colleges will be conducting their own independent counselling for admission to their MBBS/BDS seats after having been banned from doing the same earlier, as per a Supreme Court directive.

A Directorate of Medical Education and Research notice last week had restricted Adesh Medical University, Bathinda, Christian Medical College, Ludhiana, and Shri Guru Ram Das Medical University (management quota seats), Amritsar, from admitting students after the Supreme Court took a favoured stand for centralized counselling in place of an independent one by any medical college or university ( in the case of Madhya Pradesh)

According to Medical Education Secretary, Vikas Pratap, private medical institutes have resumed the admission process based on the opinion circulated by the Attorney General’s office as their basis. “It clarifies that the SC orders have no bearing on us, since it is confined only to Madhya Pradesh,” he said.

“The Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot has also been asked to fill vacant seats before the cut off admission date,” he further added.

However, a lot of noise was created by both students and parents when Adesh University raised its fee and demanded a bank guarantee on the day of counselling.

Permission to conduct independent counselling to Adesh University was given under the provisions of the state act. The CMC and Shri Guru Ram Das university have been absolved of centralized counselling, because of their minority status.

NEET qualified candidates applying for admissions under the all India quota seats are to apply to the Faridkot Government College on Wednesday and Thursday, along with those applying under the reserved quota. The remaining vacant BDS seats are to be filled on Friday.
