JIPMER Nursing student takes her life

Puducherry: N Vimala 24, a 2nd year nursing student of Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) is alleged to have taken her life in her hostel room in Puducherry. N Vimala hailed from Anantpur in Andhra Pradesh.


Her friends were prompted to look her up in her room at 9 am, on Thursday morning, when she did not attend her classes for two days at a stretch. They found her body hanging from the ceiling fan in her room. Her friends quickly informed the college administration, which went ahead and lodged a police complaint.


A team from the police station recovered the body and sent it for an examination. No suicide note was found in her room by the police. Initial investigation revealed that Vimala had slipped into a depression after failing to qualify in JIPMER nursing recruitment examination. She had also fallen behind her friends in the submission of her thesis.


The police was also informed by her friends that the victim had been taking anti depressants, and had made an unsuccessful attempt at suicide a year ago.


Daughter of a retired government servant, Vimala was keen to start work before completion of her course, as her mother was suffering from a heart ailment reports TOI.
