Puducherry: JIPMER Karaikal to commence classes from Nov, 15

KARAIKAL:A new branch of Jawaharlal Institute of Post-Graduate Medical Education JIPMER, opened at Karaikal will commence classes on Nov,15. This has been revealed by the Director of JIPMER, Subhash Chandra Parija.

At a meeting convened to review the arrangements for starting the branch of the medical college, the Director said that 49 students had been granted admission to this branch and classes were on at Puducherry now. They will be resumed at the JIPMER campus Nov 15 onwards.

Launched at an expenditure of Rs. 30 Crore, this state of the art infrastructure medical hub is to be a 506 bed government health facility, catering to the needs of medical students, to facilitate learning.

To be developed in two phases the total facilities on the JIPMER campus would be worth Rs.742 crores. The first ways would constitute an expense of Rs.406 crore, while the balance Rs.336 crore would be released in the second phase.

Kamalakannan, Puducherry Education Minister, Balachandar, Hospital Superintendent, JIPMER, Puducherry, S P. Parthiban, District Collector , Raman, Director of Medical Services, and Sridhar, Project Co-ordinator attended the meeting.

At this official meeting Dr Parija proposed that Mr. Kamalakannan take immediate action for allotting additional eight hectares of land to the JIPMER branch.

Director, Parija accompanied by officials, also inspected the site at the Arasalar area.
