Puducherry: The committee appointed under the Chairmanship of retired judge Rajeswaran met here and decided to examine the fee structure in the private medical colleges here on August 31.

Government Secretaries Babu and Arun Desai, Director, Higher and Technical Education Yasim Lakshminarayana Reddy among others participated in the meeting. Later, Puducherry Students and Parents Welfare Association President Balasubramanian met Justice Rajeswaran and lodged a complaint stating that self-financing medical colleges and dental colleges were collecting a higher amount towards tuition fee from centac students than the one fixed by the committee.

Balasubramanian also charged that a fine of Rs.500 a day is being collected from the students who failed to pay tuition fee in time and asked to finalize the tuition fee for private medical colleges as students are to be admitted as per the NEET rating. He also demanded the provision of Rs.500 a day as stipend to intern doctors . Justice Rajeswaran said the fee structure would be examined in medical colleges on August 31 and in Engineering colleges on September 8. Government secretaries, and two representatives of the students and parents association would be there in the committee. During the examination, the fee structure for each college would be decided on the basis of the infrastructural facilities available in each college. If it was proven that more money than the prescribed fees was being collected illegally, action will be initiated against the college, he said adding that if more money was already collected from the students it should be adjusted against the tuition fees next year.
