Proposed medical college at Balasore visited for inspection by MCI officials
Balasore: The Medical Council of India’s three-member team's visit to the proposed medical college and hospital saw expectations soar about admission into the MBBS programs from the current academic session. The Council team also visited the district headquarters hospital, which will be affiliated with the medical college. The college has been granted 100 MBBS seats for the current academic year.
Speculation about the commencement of the current academic session has been rife for long. The college authorities had sent a word to the Council to come and inspect the site, which is a pre-condition for the letter of permission being issued to an institution.
Surajit Das, the Additional Health Secretary, on Friday took stock of the facilities and infrastructure both at the district headquarters hospital and the medical college, prior to the Council’s inspecting team’s arrival. Talking to the Telegraph, he said: "We expect MCI to approve the seats following which classes for the first MBBS batch with 100 seats can commence from the 2018-19 academic year."
According to Chief District Medical Officer, Balasore Meenakshi Roy and Dean, College Pratap Rath the MCI team went around various departments inspecting infrastructural readiness.
