Proposed Kalahandi Medical College sanctioned Rs 202.39 crore

Bhubaneshwar: A sum of Rs 202.39 crore has been sanctioned and released by the state authorities for the building of the proposed medical college and hospital in Kalahandi district.


With this distillation of funds said Health Minister Pratap Jena, the construction of the medical college is likely to catch pace.


The tertiary care health institution will fulfill long-time aspirations of the people of the region, who will now have healthcare at their doorstep. People of the district and nearby regions will be over with long travel to get health aid, as advanced and specialized treatment, would now be available closer home, thereby, helping people economize on out-of-pocket health expenditure.


Besides of course having ushered in a new era of socio-economic development in the region, reported TOI


According to the minister, the said project will be undertaken on a Turnkey basis, under the works department supervision. An allocated Rs 302.39 crore has been demarcated in the state budget for the MCH and tendering process, which is to begin soon.


Ancillary establishments like 300 seat men’s hostel and 150 seat women’s hostel, 100 senior resident and 60 seat hostel for nurses will also be raised along with 86 residential quarters for faculty members and doctors. Besides, 150 seat nursing hostel, 36 quarters for paramedical staff and a 650 seat state-of-the-art auditorium will also be coming up. Vedanta Limited will be constructing the hospital building in accordance with the agreement signed with the State Government. The cost of the project is estimated at Rs 100 crore to be borne by the company.

The Health Minister said that Kalahandi Medical College was meant to be completed and ready in two years.


Kalahandi will add 100 MBBS doctors to the state on a yearly basis.
