Promise of MBBS at Karnataka medical colleges: Two booked for defrauding candidates of Rs 50 lakh

Earlier in June, the District Crime Branch had booked the accused duo for defrauding Rs 57 lakh from the parents of two medical aspirants.

Coimbatore: The state of Karnataka seems to have become the popular-spot for fraudsters, who are rampantly duping parents of medical aspirants under the pretext of arranging MBBS admission in medical colleges, as is evident in yet another case from the state.


Two fraudsters, also history-sheeters, have been booked on the basis of the complaints filed by the parents of two MBBS aspirants in two separate cases for allegedly duping Rs 50 lakh collectively from them under the promise of a medical seat.


According to a recent media account, in the first case, the victim parent, R M Alagesan has alleged that the accused had conned him of Rs 25 lakh by promising to arrange MBBS seat at KS Hegde Medical Academy.


Likewise, the duo has reported having allegedly duped the victim parent, Nanda Vijayan in the name of arranging MBBS admission for the latter’s son at KVG Medical College and Hospital for an amount Rs 25 lakh.


The accused have been identified as Sanjeev Kumar (44), a native of Thindal in Erode, and BC Thimaiah from Madikeri in Kodagu district of Karnataka.


In June this year, the District Crime Branch had booked the accused duo for defrauding Rs 57 lakh from the parents of two MBBS aspirants. Accordingly, the accused were arrested by the Ullal police in Mangaluru in 2016 based on complaints filed by victims from Coimbatore. However, they were later released on bail, adds The Hindu in its report.


In another case reported from the state, Medical Dialogues had earlier reported the Dream to see his son take MBBS admission in a Medical College ended up with a fraud for a businessman who reportedly got conned of Rs 10 lakhs.
