PGIMER MD/MS cheating and paper leak scam: Court declares 4 offenders
Chandigarh: A Hi-tech cheating and paper leak scam linked to the MD/MS entrance exam of PGIMER held in 2012, saw the local court declare four people as proclaimed offenders of the act.
32 people have been accused by the Central Bureau of Investigation in the cheating and scam case at the PGIMER. Of these 4 failed to show up in court. These missing 4 are identified as Abdul Jabbar, Gali Subhadra, R Promila and Hari Priya.
Three women out of these four mentioned above, acted as dummy candidates, while the fourth, their male alibi Jabbar, assisted the main accused, P Guirivi Reddy (31), in escorting dummy candidates to the city.
The scam involving the exam held on November 10, 2012, was discovered the very next day. The team found out that six women had been enrolled for the exam, just to leak the paper and they did not have the mandatory MBBS degree, the eligibility criterion for sitting for the test.
Aspirants had made payments amounting to Rs 30 -Rs 40 lakh to Reddy, an Andhra Pradesh resident, for getting the exam cleared. A majority had already paid half the sum, asked for to the man before the paper was leaked to them.
The act of leak to Reddy, the main accused was done by the dummy candidates through button-hole cameras fitted in their clothes. Reddy had hired a hotel room in a Sector 35 hotel for the purpose. From this room, Reddy forwarded the questions to experts at Ahmedabad and Patna, who in turn relayed the answers back to the main accused in the case. In the final act, Reddy dictated answers to the ‘actual’ candidates, who made payments to him for the act.
Unfortunately for him, the CBI sleuths had also booked a room in the same hotel. Reddy was caught and arrested while in the middle of dictating answers, over the phone, to the ‘actual’ candidates.
Seven such women candidates were nabbed from four different exam centers, reports the Tribune.
