Odisha: VIMSAR to offer super speciality courses

Bhubaneshwar: Super speciality courses are being introduced at the of Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR). An announcement to this effect was made by the governing body on Thursday.


Principal approvals have been given at the first meeting of the governing body chaired by Chief Secretary, Aditya Prasad Padhi. for introduction of specialised degree courses and more super speciality units in paediatric surgery, cardio-therapy, advance laparoscopy, surgical oncology, renal transplantation, surgical gastroenterology, plastic surgery and endocrinology.


A decision to have one single extended campus of the university with modern infrastructural facilities has also been taken. Sub committees have been formed to look into details of these developmental agenda.


“VIMSAR will be developed into a centre of excellence. Director of the institute has been asked to formulate specific project proposals for further improvement in healthcare services,” Padhi told reporters after the meeting.


According to Padhi the meeting also discussed dedicated recruitment for VIMSAR through Odisha Public Service Commission.


Health and Family Welfare Secretary Arti Ahuja informed that the process of assistant professor recruitment was underway . 27 Assistant Professors have already been appointed, while appointment of Associate Professors would be completed in 3 months.


Speaking about fund provisions Ms. Ahuja informed that it had been increased considerably. While Rs 70 crore would be provided as equipment and instrument fund, Rs 4.5 crore would be given as annual maintenance grant.The medical college contingency has been increased from Rs 95 lac to Rs 1.01 crore. The governing body also expressed concern over doctor absenteeism.


The Chief Secretary directed VIMSAR authorities to introduce bio-metric attendance and CCTVs and enforce rules of attendance without any excuse.


Among others, BJD MPs Nagendra Kumar Pradhan and Prabhas Kumar Samal, MLAs Raseswari Panigrahi, Rohit Pujari and Susanta Singh and VIMSAR Director Sonamali Bag participated.
