Odisha signs MoU with Vedant for a Medical College and Hospital in Kalahandi

Bhubaneswar: Odisha government on Monday signed an MoU with the Vedant Aluminium Private Ltd to set up a medical college and a 500 bedded hospital at Bhawanipatna in Kalahandi district.

Director State Medical Education and Training Prof Sonamali Bag and VAL Corporate Strategy Director Rahul Sharma signed the MoU in the presence of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and state Health and Family Welfare Minister Pratap Jena.

Speaking at the MoU signing ceremony, the Chief Minister said the government is committed to provide quality and affordable medicare to the people of the state and has initiated steps to set up nine medical colleges to meet the shortage of doctors in the state.

Mr Jena said the government has already acquired land for the proposed Bhawanipatna medical college and hospital.

In the first phase, a sum of Rs 350 crore would be spent and the construction of the medical college and hospital is targeted to be completed within two years.
