Odisha: MCI approves of PG seat hike at SCB College Cuttack

Cuttack: SCB Medical College and hospital has been granted an increase of 29 PG seats by the Medical Council of India for the academic year 2017-18.


Sources revealed five and eight PG seats to have been increased in the departments of surgery and orthopaedics while 9 have been hiked in the department of medicine.


Opthalmology has witnessed a hike of 3 seats, while , psychiatry, dermatology radio-diagnosis and respiratory medicine departments have got a hike of one seat each.


"It is a matter of immense pleasure for us. The hike in post graduate seats will help a lot in dealing with doctor shortage problem in the state," said the SCB Medical College and Hospital, Principal, Dr Siddartha Das.


"The health ministry has announced about the hike on its website and very soon we will receive an official letter in this regard," said an official of SCB to the TOI.


SCB sources informed that two other government run medical colleges MKCG Berhampur and VIMSAR, Burla. MCI has also allowed seat hikes by the MCI.While two PG seats in ophthalmology department of MKCG medical college have been increased; VIMSAR has received a hike of 11 post graduate seats.


In VIMSAR, five PG seats in surgery ,three in pediatrics , two in ophthalmology, and one in respiratory medicine department have been increased.
