Odisha Government urged to start admission in Medical colleges from 2017-18

Bhubaneswar: Members cutting across party lines in the Odisha Assembly urged the government to initiate steps to start admission in the Balasore and Bolangir government Medical colleges from the 2017-18 academic year. The Odisha government has decided to set up five medical colleges at Balasore, Bolangir, Baripada, Puri and Koraput under a central government scheme. As per the scheme while the state government would provide 75 per cent of the cost, the central government will bear 25 percent of the project cost.


The State government which had earlier announced that the Medical colleges will start imparting education from 2017-18 academic year now maintained that Medical colleges at Koraput and Baripada would start functioning from the next academic year. Raising the issue during zero hour Government Chief Whip Ananta Das said the construction of Balasore Medical college is nearing completion which will benefit the the students of Balasore, Bhadrak and part of Mayurbhanja . He requested the government to complete all technicalities so that the students could take admission from the next year. Mr Das was supported by his party colleague Jeevan Pradip Das (BJD) Aswini Patra and Gobinda Chandra Das (BJP) .


Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra said the construction of the Bolangir Medical College will also be completed before the scheduled date and urged the government to take initiative for the appointment of Principal and the teaching staff to fulfill all the criteria of MCI so that admission could start from the next academic year. He was also supported by BJP legislature party leader K V Singh Deo.
