Odisha: Baripada Medical College comes upto MCI expectations till now

Baripada: Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College and Hospital (MCH) or Baripada Medical college, which was visited by a four-member Medical Council of India team on Monday, was appreciated by the apex regulator for the work put in towards readiness of the college towards both recognition and admissions to the college.


This is the 3rd inspection visit of the council to the college, since Dec 21 last year. The medical institution was inaugurated by Chief Minister, Naveen Patnaik on September 6.


The inspection team that came visiting this time took a round of the students' hostels, conference hall, and accommodation facilities for staff, library, and non-clinical laboratory. They also inspected the Baripada District Headquarters Hospital, which is to serve as the clinical training center for the students.


According to Principal, MCH, Srikrushna Mohapatra, the team members approving of the existing facilities urged that other infrastructural requirements meet their completion on time, as well.


Construction of lavatories for students, staff and public and a canteen is yet to begin on campus.


With Mr. Patnaik having laid the foundation stone for the medical college in 2015, it was the State and the Centre that provided financial assistance for the setting up of the medical college and hospital. The institution is meant to cater to patients from Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts. The outer areas to be serviced by the MCH include the neighboring West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Bihar.


July 5 saw the college granted affiliation by the North Orissa University (NOU) though subject to the discretion of Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare under Section 10 (A) of the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956. The LoP to the college was issued by the Ministry in June this year.


Accorded a one-year admission permission, initially, the college will be taking on 100 MBBS students in the Ist year. The permission will be renewed- annually, till the infrastructural and expansion plans are completed, in line with the Council norms, reported TNIE.
