Odisha: 250 student admissions sanctioned at MKCG Medical College

Berhampur: The MKCG Medical College which had been granted a seat increase from 150 to 250 last year will be admitting 250 students, in the MBBS course this year. The increase of a 100 more admissions comes with the central government permission.


"The government has approved the increase in seats based on the recommendation of the Medical Council of India (MCI) this year," said A K Dandapat, College Principal. The infrastructural facilities of the college were assessed by the apex education regulator last month.


"We will submit all necessary documents to the Central government in the stipulated time period so that 250 MBBS students can be admitted this year," Principal, Dr. Dandapat told the TOI.


The MCI team will visit the college for another infrastructural inspection before granting the institution an increase in seat numbers. According to a senior faculty a permanent seat increase will be granted to the college after a row of inspections for a continuous period of five years.


The college had been granted an increase in seats from a 107 to 150 in 2007.
