Patna: Yet another uproar has surfaced related to a Vyapam like scam with a Patna Medical College and Hospital’s junior resident doctor being arrested by the crime branch for his alleged involvement in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) question paper leak in December 2016, this year.

A PMCH postgraduate student of radiology, the accused has been identified as Jan Mehta(34) from Tulsiya, Madhepura district.

"His original name is Rajeev Ranjan and the CBI was also searching him," sources stated. He is believed to have passed the examination through unfair means this year to get admitted in PMCH.

According to sources, the CBI had made an earlier attempt to arrest him by raiding the college premises and department of radiology, though unsuccessfully. Finally, the police did manage the arrest this culprit from the department itself, on Tuesday.

Sources said he had also been enrolled in an MBBS course at PMCH, in 2008. "He had charged a huge sum of money from candidates for solving questions. Mehta was one of the kingpins who had got access to some NEET examination centres in connivance with officials and solved questions for candidates through Internet," police sources told TOI.

Several other arrests from different states have been made, after a case was lodged related to this crime on February 1, this year. The police are also accusing Mehta of having been involved in the Punjab PMT question paper leak, as well, last year.

The police state that apart from Mehta fraudulently scoring All India Rank (AIR) 386 with 1161.014 marks out of 1500, in the NEET examination, there are believed to be 11 other suspects, who allegedly made a good score in the NEET exam, in the same manner, having been aided by him.

"Mehta will be interrogated about these suspects," a police officer said, that he would also be questioned about experts having been deployed to solve the online examination.

Sources reveal that there are 7 of these suspects in the PMCH itself, while one alone managed to procure admission in a renowned Mumbai medical college. Two private medical colleges at Sasaram and Katihar also seem to have enrolled a fraudulent admission each.

In the line of fraudulent students three happen to be females. "Their AIRs are between 129 and 4038," the officer said, Mehta is believed to have charged each aspirant Rs 60 lakh to solve their question paper. Officials are of the opinion that this task was carried out in connivance with Mehta, reports TOI.
