Bengaluru: The compulsion to qualify National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Under-Graduate (UG) courses, NEET to acquire admission in Bachelor Yoga and Naturopathy (BYNS) has been abolished by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) for this academic year in Karnataka based health institutions.

Accordingly, in order to get admission to BYNS course, the candidates have to write Common Entrance Test (CET) conducted by Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA). Concerned candidates have already applied for CET 2019 and those who still have to submit fees for the exam can pay the prescribed fee

The confirmation to this effect comes via a recently issued notice signed by KEA Executive Director on the official website of KEA, which clearly states:

"As Government of India in their letter No. R 14011/06/2018-EP-II dated 25-02-2019 has directed the state Government that NEET ranking is not mandatory for admission to Bachelor of Naturopathy & Yoga System courses, Government in their letter No. HFW 102 PTD 2019 dated 19-03-2019 has directed KEA to conduct CET for admission to Bachelor of Naturopathy & Yoga System courses.

  • In view of the above, to get the eligibility for admission to Bachelor of Yoga and Naturopathy courses for the year 2019 candidates have to attend CET 2019 conducted by KEA.

  • Incase if any candidate has not applied for CET 2019, can apply from 22-03-2019 to 27-03-2019 and pay the prescribed fees on or before 29-03-2019."

The relaxation by the MoHFW in fact comes after noting the whopping vacancy rate of AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy) courses in the state.

According to KEA statistics, all the 1,577 government quota AYUSH seats have been filled last year, while only 70 of the total 894 private quota seats in private colleges had been filled, which makes a total of 824 seats lying vacant under the said quota.

Earlier, medical aspirants, who intended to pursue AYUSH courses, but failed to appear or qualify the NEET, were given the relaxation to seek admissions directly in the private medical colleges in Karnataka.

This decision by was taken in view of the huge number of vacant AYUSH courses seats at the private medical institutions running across the state.
