Nagpur: The Medical Council of India's(MCI), denial of post graduate seats to Government Medical College and Hospital, Nagpur (GMC Nagpur) and Indira Gandhi Government Medical College (IGGMC), has led the two colleges to decide to submit their proposals to the Council for reconsideration.

Dean, Government Medical College and Hospital Nahpur Dr A Niswade, told TOI that he was sending a proposal to the MCI with a suggestion to surrender 33 diploma courses in various subjects, and demand degree courses in their place in subjects with a post-graduation pursuit.

GMC Nagpur has not been sanctioned any seats for five of its PG courses. "I am sending the proposal through three of the college teachers immediately, as we still have time till April 7, for presenting our case," he added.

However, sources in the GMC Nagpur health facility say that college is responsible for this fall out, as it did not submit its application well in time, for the education regulator's consideration.

"The delay was at the end of GMCH. It didn't send the proposal in proper format at proper time to the MCI. For one department's proposal you need almost 4000 pages of documentation. Our college sent documents on the last moment. So apparently those departments with improper documentation have not got the seats. It's no fault of MCI," revealed a professor.

The Indira Gandhi Government Medical College,Dean has also decided to shoot a letter across to the Council for reconsideration of its demand for post graduate seats in the three subjects- given a mention earlier. His letter is meant to carry reasons why the apex body should reconsider, the institution's request for PG seats.

The IGGMC has been denied seats in anesthesia pediatrics, and surgery.
