Nagpur: Centre, GMCH to sign agreement in March-end to begin AIIMS first Batch

Nagpur: The Central Government and Government Medical College(GMC), and Hospital will enter an agreement, March end to start the first batch of All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) in the city.


Formed under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), a team led by AIIMS Raipur director Dr Nitin Nagarkar will visit the hospital to determine the further course of action. The sharing of the government college hospital with AIIMS will be decided upon by the team. The decision to start AIIMS on a temporary basis in collaboration with AIIMS was taken in November, last year. The central team was to visit the GMCH and chalk out the plan, ever since.


Dr. Nagarkar has been approached by the local authorities for the starting of the starting of the process. Dr. Nagarkar on his part has assured them that PMSSY has conceded and will be sending a team at the end of march.


The six member team which inspected GMCH along with other colleges for starting of AIIMS in September 2016, finally settled upon GMCH to initiate AIIMS.


The first academic batch to start in 2018-19 will be initiated with 50 seats from the GMCH. The AIIMS permanent structure was approved in October 2015. 150 acres has been allocated for its campus by the state government, reports TOI.
