Jammu and Kashmir: Union Health and Family Welfare Minister JP Nadda and Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti recently laid down the foundation stones of Government Medical Colleges (GMCs) of Doda and Kathua.

The foundation was laid at Ghat village which is opposite to District Hospital in Kathua and 5km from district headquarters, Doda.

Tribune reports that the medical college has the capacity of nearly one hundreds seats for doctors and will also provide benefits to the people of Samba district to get best of treatment. The construction of the Medical college is estimated to cost Rs 189 crores. Doda medical college comes as a relief to the people in the DoDa district as well its surrounding areas of Kishtwar and Ramban district, who had been waiting for the medical college since its announcement by the UPA government in 2014.

Similarly, Kathua medical college will cater to remote areas of the district, including Bani, Basholi, Billawar and border belts where every now and then people suffer injuries when Pakistan pounds villages on this side.

It is reported that last year on May 15, Nadda and Mehbooba had laid foundation stones of three medical colleges at Rajouri, Anantnag and Baramulla but due to non-completion of formalities, foundation stones weren’t laid for Doda and Kathua medical colleges.
