Mysore : JSS hospital in Mysore is moving ahead on its path to get an NABH accreditation, by first bagging the entry level accreditation from the Quality Council Of India.

JSS Hospital MS, M Guruswamy confirmed to TOI that the hospital has been given an entry-level accreditation by NABH. "This is a milestone in healthcare quality accreditation. The recognition is an acknowledgemtn to quality care being provided to patients, safety standards and services," he said.
Guruswamy said that only a few hospitals in the country have received NABH certification. "NABH had received 230 applications from hospitals from across the country. But only a few are given the certificate. The members from accreditation committee inspected JSS Hospital for three days. Only after being satisfied with the quality of healthcare facility provided for patients did the committee recommend our hospital for accreditation," he added.

The validity of the accreditation will be for two years from January 15, 2016, to January 14, 2018. "We have to constantly improve the quality of healthcare in the hospital to reach the pre-accreditation (progressive level) and full-time accreditation. We will try to get the full-time accreditation within two years. The accreditation will benefit patients andn stakeholders," he said.

As large number of hospitals face challenges and difficulties in implementing all the Accreditation Standards, NABH has developed Pre Accreditation Entry Level Certification standards, as a stepping stone for enhancing the quality of patient care and safety. The aim is to introduce quality and accreditation to the HCOs as their first step towards awareness and capacity building. Once Pre Accreditation Entry Level Certification is achieved, the HCO can then prepare and move to the next stage
Progressive
Level and finally to Full Accreditation status. This methodology provides a step by step and staged approach, which is practical for the HCOs. The applicant hospital must have conducted self-assessment against NABH Pre Accreditation Entry Level standards after implementing it for at least 3 months before submission of application and must ensure that it complies with the standards.

JSS hospital is attached as teaching hospital to the J.S.S. Medical College.
