Impact assessment: MUHS affiliated medical colleges to be Graded Soon

Nashik: Impact assessment of MBBS colleges affiliated to the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) from the new academic session is likely to begin soon.The assessment is to be based on parameters like hospital facilities, infrastructure and faculty.


With the assessment module ready the implementation of the process is likely to begin soon.


The Ministry of Medical Education and Drugs will help in the conduction of the assessment said MUHS Vice-Chancellor, Dr Deelip Mhaisekar The assessment parameters are to be based on ones set by the Medical Council of India (MCI) as well as the respective state medical councils. The assessments will cover medical, dental, physiotherapy, nursing colleges Ayurveda, and homeopathy.


Colleges offering other applied health sciences courses will be included in “The ‘impact assessment project’. 346 colleges are affiliated to the MUHS. This affiliation includes government and private colleges. The assessment grades would range between A+ to D and will be awarded to medical colleges after an inspection by the expert committee,” said Dr Mhaisekar.

The process would be divided into two parts




  • the Ist part of the assessment would include infrastructural development- 700 Marks

  • The 2nd part would be associated with the academic growth of the college-1000 marks


“MUHS conducted an orientation programme of affiliated colleges on the impact assessment in May 2018. It was a successful event that helped the college management to know about compliances for the assessment,” said the V-C.


Medical colleges in the division are also getting ready for the assessment exercise. “We have been told that the assessment will be on the lines of National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The gradation of colleges will help students make a better choice during admission. This is a welcome initiative and we are eager to be a part of the assessment process,” Dr Vasantrao Pawar, a senior management committee member of Medical College, Hospital & Research Centre told the TOI.
