MP: MGM medical college student alleges ragging by senior students

A junior student, who did not disclose his identity, at MGM medical college has alleged his seniors of ragging in a complaint filed with the UGC in this regard


MP: A junior student at the MGM medical college has gone ahead in officially accusing his seniors of ragging him. It is reported that the alleged victim in this case has filed a complaint with anti-ragging helpline of UGC; pointing fingers at his seniors in the college.


The student has made a claim in his complaint that even other PG fresher students of obstetrics & gynaecology department are victims of alleged mental harassment by the seniors. The alleged victim has also made another claim which implied that the harassed students are being forced into abetment to commit suicide.


The anti-ragging helpline administration is reported to have taken the matter on an immediate priority. They have already issued at an alert to the college authorities, for further inquiry to be conducted into the matter. Helpline also informed Indore police and the university.


The college authorities have also put forward a suggestion to immediately take an action on the matter, by filing an FIR against the alleged accused students involved in the matter. Reportedly, the matter has already reached the police, with helpline authorities having informed the Indore police and the university.


Police has responded on the matter implying that necessary action would soon be initiated on the matter. They are now waiting for a police complaint to be filed against the alleged accused in the case.


However, the college authorities are yet to find any proof, after they have initiated a probe into the matter. The victim has not been traced so far. Now, the matter has been forwarded to the anti-ragging committee of the college.


In total there are 45 students in the obstetrics & gynaecology department. Out of the total students working, 20 are in the first year. Majority of students hold a post in across places, like some are in OPD, others in OT and wards. Anti-ragging committee has interrogated junior students individually to enquire further about the alleged ragging incident. However, each student has denied holding knowledge about any incident of ragging or misconduct.


"They even refused to lodge any sort of complaint with anti-ragging helpline of UGC," committee said in its preliminary report, as accesses by the media.


College sent the report to UGC stating that the complaint was baseless, false and wrong and lodged just to tarnish the image of the institution.


"We have asked MGM Medical College to furnish report of anti-ragging committee in the ragging complaint. If need be, DAVV's anti-ragging committee will probe into the matter." Said Laxmikant Tripathi, Dean student welfare, DAVV
