MP: Medical Education Department visits Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College and Hospital

MP: A high-level delegation of members from Medical Education Department is reported to have visited Government Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College and Hospital recently. Their purpose of visit was discussion on the additional 100 MBBS seats-to be offered at the college.

During their visit, Dr L P Verma, Assistant Director of Medical Education and other team members, discussed in detail on the proposal to increase MBBS seats from 150 to 250. The meeting was held at the Dean’s office.

Different issues in consideration of the proposal were discussed, including the state of existing infrastructure (and the changes required), new building construction, while contemplating on more development task at hand. All this is in view of a single-objective-so as to enable the institute to increase its MBBS seats offerings from 2017.

PWD officials and Consultant were present during the meeting. They shared their plans and maps for the exact infrastructure requirements at the institute. This broadly includes the number of building, classrooms, OTs, labs etc. In addition, a presentation was also given to map the requirement of a proposed Superspeciality Hospital and State Cancer Institute.

Project Director Dr L P Verma talking to ‘The Hitavada’ said the Government has proposed about Rs 1.25 crore for each additional seats. Budget for proposed additional seats will be around Rs 125 crore. He said ground works for changes in infrastructure and new construction works will be started soon after getting approval from other departments concerned. Dean Dr Rooplekha Chouhan said that meeting with Project Director and Consultant was successful. She said we have completed about 70 per cent of works as per norms.

The required amendments in planning, map-sketch, and more work will soon be completed, and send to the Medical Education Department for approval. Principal Secretary of Medical Education Department is expected to share it forward with the Chief Secretary, to present in person on May 14.
