Indore:The MGM Medical College was inspected by a three member MCI team that visited it on Thursday to update itself on whether the discrepancies pointed out by the body last year had been set right.

The visiting team comprised of Dr Ram Mohanty from Orissa, Dr K Lakshminarayan from Karnataka and Dr Rajan Nanda from Rajasthan.

Dr Rahul Rokade, a spokesperson of MGM Medical College, confirmed the visit saying that the members were there to review the facilities and infrastructure available in the college, and assess whether the shortcomings pointed out last year had been done away with.

The MCI inspectors checked to see whether the college had adequate facilities in terms of both infrastructure and faculty to run MBBS courses.

The visit is of significance for its assessment will decide the fate of the continuation of the 10 MBBS seat increase that was granted to the college in September 2015 and May 2016.

The MCI inspectors found many discrepancies including restricted space in the library and the museum of the anatomy department. The team also did a head count of faculty in various departments and hostels, besides visiting the urban and rural health centers. The team on their round of the casualty and wards of the attached MY hospital discovered several irregularities.

The college administration was taken aback by this surprise check, as they were preoccupied with the task of cancelling excess admissions.
