INDORE: A High Court Division Bench has issued a directive to the state government and the Directorate of Medical Education (DME), asking them to present the original student admission record of students allotted seats in private medical colleges.

The bench was hearing the petitions of four of the 30 MBBS students that were allotted admission in the excess category in two private colleges. Notices were issued to the Directorate of Medical Education and Research and the state government by the division bench, comprising of Justice PK Jaiswal and Justice Virendra Singh. The hearing is scheduled for November 4.

The petitioners counsel Lalji Tiwari, said that he had pleaded to the court that the students were not at fault and that it was the Directorate of Medical Education that had committed the error; leaving the students aggrieved. He was of the opinion that students with lower scores should have been replaced by aggrieved students ,as they had the options of joining other colleges at the time of counselling.

The petitioners challenged the education body's admission process, saying that candidates lower on the merit list, than them, were granted admissions. The petitioners further alleged that at the time of offline counselling, they could have exercised the option of seeking admission into any of the five colleges. They however, chose the closer home options.

They further confirmed having paid fees for the course and being granted admission. They further affirmed confirmation having been given by Dean, MGM. The petitioners include : Animesh Singhai, Nishank Tiwari from Indore and Usha Singh and Akansha Singh from Patna, Bihar.

Last Thursday, the MGM Committee had asked the Directorate of Medical Education, to cancel the admission of 30 candidates. Having perused the candidature of each student , the committee left it to the Directorate of Medical Education to take the final decision on the matter.

The committee had discovered 30 excess admissions in both R D Gardi Medical College in Ujjain and the Amaltas Medical College in Dewas
