MP: Government to take action against medical and dental colleges that deny admissions

Bhopal : The government has given a strict warning to private medical colleges, denying admissions to students approaching them with seat allotment letters, from the Gandhi Medical College(GMC) counselling center. The warning has been issued after complaints were received from several students about seat allotment refusals, on Thursday.

The seat allotment exercise had continued from Wednesday night till Friday night, as per the schedule, fixed by the Medical Education Department after Supreme Court orders. The students also got an opportunity to speak to the Admission and fee regulation Committee, during the counselling sessions regarding fee problems they were facing at both government and private medical colleges, who were charging way beyond the amount fixed by the fee regulating body.

A number of parents created scenes outside medical and dental colleges, which denied admission to their children. They also felt that if there had been a separate counter for admission and fee related queries at counselling centers, such scenes could be avoided.

Dr G S Patel, Director, Medical Education, confirmed having received complaints regarding both denial of admissions despite seat allotment letters, and exorbitant fees being charged of them.
