Indore: The Amaltas Institute of Medical Sciences challenging the order by an appellate authority to fix fees for the MBBS course at Rs 6 lakh per annum recently moved the High Court. The division bench on hearing the arguments is reported to have reserved the order.

The institute in its petition has asked for its fee to be fixed at Rs. 10 Lakh a year. The reason for it as highlighted by the institute states that this year’s batch being the Ist one, hence calling for a higher fund consumption.

Amaltas had submitted an application with the Admission and Fee Regulatory Committee (AFRC), asking for the fee to be fixed at 10 lakh annually. However, the appeal was declined as the AFRC decided to fix it at Rs. 5 lakh. Undeterred, Amaltas challenged the AFRC order before the appellate authority, which came up with a rejection all over again, asking the AFRC to fix the fee sum again.

This time the fee was fixed at Rs. 5.18 lakh and was once again challenged before the appellate authority, which fixed the fee at Rs. 6 lakh.

"This is the first year that Amaltas Institute will be admitting medical students. At Chirayu Medical College in Bhopal, AFRC has allowed for the fee to be Rs eight lakh, being on the same standing as the Amaltas Institute. Hence AFRC's rejection of our appeal is discriminatory," argued , advocate Ajay Bagadia .

At present students are paying Rs. 6 lakh per annum, in accordance with the appellate authority’s decision.

Currently, students are paying Rs. six lakh per annum as fees in accordance with the appellate authority's decision, reports the TOI.
