Mohali to get a new government medical college with 100 seats

Mohali: A Rs 190 crore Government Medical College and Hospital project at SAS Nagar Mohali has been given a nod by Chief Minister, Amarinder Singh. The college with a provision for 100 seats and the 200 bedded hospital has been given the Chief Minister’s assent to overcome shortage of medical specialists and at the same time give medical education in the state a boost. With a centre state fund ratio of 60: 40 the establishment will be spread over a sprawling 20 acre campus. The recurring expenditure of 40 crore a year is to be borne by the state.


The medical facility is to be one of the five promised by the Congress in its manifesto.The medical college would have a faculty of six professors, 18 assistant professors, 17 tutors, 14 associate professors, 24 senior residents and 25 junior residents in various disciplines. With the establishment of this new college , the number of government medical colleges would go upto 4. According to the Chief Minister, several industrialists had shown interest in setting up medical colleges and facilities in the state.


The state government will soon forward a detailed proposal on the upcoming college and hospital to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, reports the Hindustan Times.
