MGM Medical College visited by MCI for compliance

Jamshedpur: A Medical Council of India’s (MCI) two-member team visited the MGM Medical College and Hospital, a 540-bed facility, on Tuesday, to inspect the conduction of the MBBS final year examination that began on the same day. The hospital at Sakchi was visited first, followed by the team ’s visit to the college campus at Dimna.


The Principal of MGM Medical College, Dr A C Akhouri said the prime reason behind the Council’s visit was a look into the conduction of the final year exam by the college. According to him, the Council team would be in the city for the inspection for the next two days.


The MCI team which comprises Dr Ajay Kumar from Kolkata and Dr Sidharth from Siliguri visited the gynaecology and paediatrics wards of MGM Hospital to check on the facilities available to patients.


The college hospital has a 1000 patient footfall every day.


Sources speaking to the Avenue Mail elaborated that the team would also be looking into college and hospital compliance issues. The source further added that once compliance with MCI norms was confirmed the Council would consider a 50 seat increase for MGMCH.


The college which began with a 50 seat strength got a hike of another 50, five years ago.Presently the final exams being held are for the batch that entered college 5 years ago.
