MGM Medical College gets MCI inspection for 10 additional MBBS seats

Indore: A Medical Council of India (MCI) team on Tuesday visited Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College(MGM Medical College) and Maharaja Yashwantrao (MY) Hospital to check whether MGM Medical College was well-equipped to retain the 10 additional MBBS seats granted to it 5 years ago, on a permanent basis, finally. This was to be the last of its 5 inspections conducted every year, since the granting of them. Facilities were inspected by the team, in this regard.


The college now has a total of 160 seats including these 10 granted to the college at the directive of the court.


“A three-member team of MCI inspected the college and MY Hospital on Tuesday morning. The team reviewed facilities, infrastructure available at the college. It also verified whether shortcomings pointed out by another MCI team earlier have been addressed,” the community medicine department, Head, MGM Medical college, Dr Sanjay Dixit told free press journal.


The visiting team comprised of Dr Ramesh Bharmal, Mumbai; Dr PK Ganeshbabu, Theni(Tamil Nadu) and Dr Pradeep Garg, Rohtak, The college was assessed by the three members for adequate facilities, infrastructure, and faculty, for running of the MBBS course.


The team’s report to the apex education regulator will decide the fate of the 10 additional seats.The college officials seemed confident of retaining these additional seats, as they said they had the required infrastructure- in place.


Dr Ramesh Bharmal one of the three visiting MCI inspectors took a round of the departments of biochemistry, microbiology, anatomy, and physiology to verify the facilities available.


Dr Ganeshbabu, on the other hand, checked the facilities of the central research lab, forensic medicine, community medicine, college website, head counts of pathology, and pharmacology department reports Free Press Journal.
