Munger: “We do not interfere in the autonomy of universities, and only make suggestions. I feel, colleges should also be moved towards autonomy,” stating this, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar emphasized the need of autonomy of professional colleges including medical colleges in support of enhancing the quality of professional education.

He pointed out that the state government was committed to ensuring the autonomy of universities and now medical colleges should also be granted autonomy for the sake of quality education to medical students, without uncalled administrative interference.

The Minister addressed the very issue while inaugurating the newly setup Munger University in the state. He claimed that the state government was making all sincere steps to provide quality education to students and a number of universities, engineering colleges, medical colleges and paramedical institutions would come up in Bihar in days ahead.

The Bihar government had constituted a state education finance corporation to provide loans to students aspiring to pursue higher education, he said and added that education loans up to Rs four lakhs would be given an annual interest of four per cent to boys and at a nominal interest of one per cent to physically challenged students and girls, adds the news agency UNI.

Autonomy is becoming a major necessity for the success of government medical institutions. Medical Dialogues had recently reported about the Delhi Government’s decision in view of the autonomy for medical institutes. The Delhi Government has decided to have its own Medical University which will bring all the medical colleges operating in the capital under one roof.

To facilitate this decision, a committee has been formed to frame the Delhi Health University Bill. “We are hoping to come out with the Bill soon; which will be presented in the Assembly in the next two months,” the Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain had confirmed.

It had been stressed by the medical colleges’ authorities that they have to contact their affiliated university for every decision even when the issue can be resolved easily and doesn’t need to go to the ultimate level.
