MCI told not to act against 56 MBBS Students

Puducherry: The Medical Council of India(MCI), has been directed by the health department for withdrawal of action initiated by it, against the 56 students of Sri Venkateshwara Medical College Hospital and Research Centre.


A department release states the council to have inappropriately ordered the discharge of 55 government quota and one management quota student of the college.


“The department has taken up the matter with the MCI to withdraw the action in respect of 56 Centac-sponsored students and the college has been advised not to discharge these candidates until further order/communication from the MCI. It has appealed to these 56 students and their parents not to panic.” The release further stated.


“They should not fall prey to any rumours that may be spread in this regard,” it further added.


With regards to the other 105 admitted at Sri Venkateshwara Medical College Hospital and Research Centre, Sri Manakula Vinayagar Medical College and Hospital, and Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences, the health department gave directions to the colleges to discharge the students as per Council directives.


Meanwhile, the discharge direction by the Medical Council had been given on discovering that the admissions to the colleges had been granted in violation of the after it found that the admissions had been done in violation of the Graduate Medical Education Regulations, 1997.


The Council’s dismissal directive was based on its findings that the 105 student names submitted by the institutions did not tally with the CENTAC list submitted to the Council reports the HINDU.


The department had asked for the removal of student names from the college rolls for 2017-18, and submission of compliance as well.


The Medical Council recommendation was communicated to the Registrar of Pondicherry University and the Registrar of Tamil Nadu State Medical Council for necessary action, the release revealed.
