Hyderabad: The Medical Council’s disapproval of four new medical colleges for not submitting their university affiliation documents for recognition and commencement of course for 2017-18, has pushed these colleges behind by another year. This comes, despite the colleges having submitted their consent of affiliation papers issued by Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences. The MCI declined the university’s affiliation granted to these four colleges, as it was issued by the university on November 7, 2016, which happens to be after the cut-off date of July 7, 2016.

As per MCI norms, applications for establishment of new colleges must be submitted between June 15 and July 7 every year.

Had the approval been given by the apex education regulator, the four colleges- Ayaan Institute of Medical Sciences, Kanakamamidi, TRR Institute of Medical Sciences, Medak, Surabhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Medak and Dr Patnam Mahender Reddy Institute of Medical Sciences would have provided an additional seat strength of 600 MBBS seats in Telangana.

The decision to decline affiliation consent by Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences to these four colleges was taken at an MCI’s Executive Committee meeting held on April 28 this year. The committee found that the consent of affiliation-issued by Dr NTR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada,-and submitted by the colleges was valid only up to December 31, 2015. This information was passed onto the committee by the Telangana government.

As per MCI norms, applications for establishment of new colleges must be submitted between June 15 and July 7 every year. This year, MCI has conveyed its decision of not processing the applications to Union ministry of health and family welfare reports TOI.
