Patna: The Medical Council of India (MCI), team inspected the orthopaedics and paediatrics departments of Patna Medical College and Hospital for sanctioning additional seats to these departments for their post graduate and diploma courses.

"As per the MCI record, the department of orthopaedics has just four seats, while it actually has six seats. Similarly, the paediatrics department has 12, not nine seats, as shown in MCI record. "MCI inspection at the time of examination is common. The MCI team will also inspect actual seats available in eye, ENT, gynaecology medicine, TB and chest departments," Dr Sinha stated.

According to sources in the PMCH Dean's office , 12 seats for diploma courses in the ophthalmology department and 12 diploma seats in TB and chest department are yet to be granted an MCI approval.

The MCI will also check on faculty appointments, flow of patients and infrastructure availability, in various departments. "If everything goes well, the executive committee of MCI will recognize the additional seats," the sources added.
